Lotion Bars

Lotion bars are a great way to travel with lotion. They run little risk of exploding at high altitudes and ruining your vacation. Here’s a base lotion bar recipe. Feel free to expand upon it and discover more.

Lotion Bar

  • 1 cup coconut oil

  • 1/2 cup shea butter

  • 1 1/2 cup beeswax

  • 16 drops of your favorite scent or essential oils*

  • Heat safe bowl

  • Mixing spoon

  • Lotion molds (I’ve used an ice tray before)

In a glass heat safe bowl, melt coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax. Either in 30 second incriments in the mircowave or in a double boiler on the stove top. The key is to slowly melt the oils, butter, and wax.

Let cool till safe to handle, but still liquid.

Add Scents or essential oils, mix well.

Pour into molds and let cool on the counter top till solid.

Enjoy!

The lotion will melt onto you due to your body heat! They should keep for 2 months unused in a sealed container.

You could add tea leaves to steep in melted coconut oil for a milder scent and other herbal values. This would be done before adding the shea butter and beeswax.

( *Be aware that some essential oils can cause photosensitivity, and or chemical burns if not used properly. Always seek professional help when using essential oils.)
